POSITION SUMMARY:
Monitor tire wear and pressure throughout the fleet on a daily basis and perform tire changes for routed trucks the next day.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
- Perform a lot check every evening by gauging tire pressures
- Monitor tread depths on all tires
- Change tires found flat and change them at the pull points
- May repair tires in some occasions
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other related state and federal regulations
- Ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization, with customers and external vendors
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School diploma, GED and/or equivalent work experience
Years of Experience: Two years of tire related experience
Certifications: Must meet all regulatory requirements to operate trucks and other equipment used; a valid commercial driver's license is required
MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE USED:
- Usual office equipment including telephone, fax, copier, calculator and computer
- Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Company information systems
- Vehicle diagnostic equipment
- Tools and equipment used in shop including but not limited to floor sweeper, fork lift, hydraulic hose, air powered tools, hand tools
- Two way radio
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Mechanics are exposed to the following conditions:
- Slippery floors due to oil and grease spills
- Cramped conditions under trucks and in truck compartments
- Petroleum products and solvents
- Hot temperatures from engines and coolant systems
- Vibration from powered hand tools
- Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures
- May be exposed to solvents and chemicals, and refuse in trucks
- Exposed to other risks associated with working around machines, tools and trucks
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to operate trucks and other equipment used as needed
- Ability to organize various office systems through adjusting, connecting, lifting, pulling, pushing, bending or folding for the purpose of proper records development and/or management
- Ability to use a computer and related devices, such as a keyboard or mouse or other related equipment, throughout the workday while seated at a desk or workstation
- Ability to climb ladders, bend or stand for long periods of time
- Ability to reach above shoulders and lift a minimum of 50 pounds
